“You must always be intoxicated. That sums it all up: it’s the only question. In order not to feel the horrible burden of Time which breaks your back and bends you down to earth, you must be unremittingly intoxicated. But on what? Wine, poetry, virtue, as you please. But never be sober ” Charles Pierre Baudelaire
Usually trendy hotel lobby bars are not much more than.. well, lobbies, with the occasional girl in a box thrown in the mix. But stepping into the lobby at SLS Hotel in West Hollywood is a whole new level of lobby lounge.. It’s a restaurant, it’s a bar, it’s a playground for the senses. I happened to stroll in on a Friday night without reservations, for a drink at the ‘Bar Centro’. Definitely the way to go. Otherwise, the reservation route will get you a table at 5pm on a Tuesday night.
Dress to impress.. the people are as good looking as the décor. Lots of wanna be celebrities hoping for a flash of a camera coming their way.. To fit in, just act aloof and say ‘so what do you do’?
Once at the bar (which is also the restaurant) order some fabulous tapas, specialty cocktails, or cotton candy. Jose Andres, super chef from Spain, serves up so many unique flavors in this outrageously vibrant LA phenomenon, there isn’t a bad choice on the menu.
And if my recommendation isn’t enough, check out what the LA Times had to say about it. The Bazaar was just given a 4 star review, the highest in 5 years. Go there!
